There had been a sudden and somewhat unexpected snowfall of about 2-3 inches (5-7 cm) in Leeds on 8 March. By the following morning it had all gone from local roads except where it had been piled up by shovels and ploughs, but this road down by the canal still had plenty of evidence of the previous day's fall.
