Lady Alice Bowling Club
Lady Alice Bowling Club
Located between Inverkip Road and Brachelston Street (in the background), the club is named after Lady Alice Shaw Stewart CBE. In 1883 Sir Michael Hugh Shaw Stewart of Ardgowan, Inverkip, married Lady Alice Emma Thynne (daughter of the 4th Marquess of Bath). Lady Aice was a member of the Oxford luminary group, The Souls. She also took an interest in the local community as a member of Greenock School Board (a nearby Primary School bears her name) and a member of the Paisley Group of the Girl Guides. She was also a Justice of the Peace.
