Approaching the church from the west, considered by some to be one of the finest medieval churches, not only in Cheshire, but in the whole of England.

Church of St Mary, Nantwich

The parish church of St Mary, with its unusual octagonal tower, is one of the best known in Cheshire. The walls, and some of the woodwork in the choir, date mainly from the 15th century; the nave fittings are mainly 19th century by George Gilbert Scott (or his firm) and most of the stained glass is 19th or 20th century. It is Grade 1 listed (list entry 1206059).

The church follows the evangelical style of Anglicanism and I was impressed to be told by the volunteer guide that it has a congregation of over 500.
