The demolition of the unlovely 1960s St James' Centre just beyond the eastern end of Princes Street, to be reconstructed as Edinburgh St James - a large retail, hotel, residential and leisure development
Link. The construction phase began on 17 October 2016, with the closure of the St James Shopping Centre and the beginning of its demolition, which is anticipated to take around 18 months to complete. Leith Street is closed until 31 August 2018. The retail and leisure element is anticipated to complete in 2020, followed by full scheme completion in 2021.
[b]August 2020:[b/] Delays in working due to Covid-19 restrictions mean that Spring 2021 is now the date anticipated for completion of the first phase, and 2022 for the rest.
