NY7143 : Arch at Rotherhope Tower

taken 6 years ago, near to Leadgate, Cumbria, England

Arch at Rotherhope Tower
Arch at Rotherhope Tower
Rotherhope Tower lies on the north side of the minor road connecting Leadgate with Garrigill. There appears to be no tower there but the gable end of a house is seen in the image together with a stone-built arch which has a dated stone, 1871, together with a carved shield bearing what are assumed to be initials.
(Note Added 30 April 2018: - Information received is that the actual tower was demolished perhaps around the year 2000 and that it stood at the far end of the house.)
