Drain grid in the surface of the slab bridge.

This might seem odd on something designated a ford, but it isn't. Under normal conditions the rainwater would drain off the road through this grid, into the gulley trap below, and thence into the river. All the rubber dust, vehicle particulates, and other environmental dross associated with roads will accumulate in the gully trap where it can be periodically removed by a sludge gulper vehicle rather than get into the water courses
