Ingarsby Train Station
The name as it appears on the plate on the gate.
The former railway (sic) station buildings, now a private residence. The right hand gable an beyond is a modern extension.
The station opened for traffic in 1882 on the Great Northern Railway's new branch to Leicester Belgrave Road. The line was never a commercial success, and survived largely due to heavy holiday traffic to the East Coast resorts. The station closed to all traffic in 1953, although excursion traffic and some freight traffic continued to use the line until 1962/3.
