TQ9894 : New sea wall, Wallasea Island

taken 8 months ago, 3 km from Churchend, Essex, Great Britain

New sea wall, Wallasea Island
New sea wall, Wallasea Island
Looking west. This no longer acts as a sea wall in the usual sense. The area to the right was first given up to the sea to form Allfleets Marsh, the new wall then acting as a proper sea wall. Later, the area to the left was also deliberately flooded to form Jubilee Marsh by breaching the sea wall along the Roach. Since then this wall acts only as a causeway to a viewpoint and access to a fragment of the old sea wall.
