Pudsey Cemetery - shadows
Pudsey Cemetery - shadows
Most burials are, following ancient tradition, aligned west-east, so at 7pm on a spring evening (6pm by the sun), the sunlight from the west lines up the shadows of each headstone onto the adjacent one.
Pudsey Cemetery

The cemetery is a grade 2* listed "park" (list entry 1001614), laid out in 1872 to the designs of William Gay, and has been in use since 1875. The eastern half is consecrated for Church of England burials but the western half is secular (unconsecrated). In the centre is a dual chapel - presumably likewise sacred/secular - but it is now disused, dilapidated and fenced off as dangerous. The whole site is in the ownership of Leeds City Council.
