Bridge over the Tees at Piercebridge
Bridge over the Tees at Piercebridge
The bridge links Yorkshire and County Durham, or to be more exact these days, North Yorkshire with Darlington borough. Looking under the arches one can see that this bridge has an 'older' half on the upstream side. The bridge is late medieval, but was repaired in 1673 and then widened in 1789, a date which would suggest work done by John Carr who was the North Riding bridge surveyor/engineer at that time. The view is from the beer garden of the George Hotel on the Yorkshire side of the river.
