Snib Torbetís Cave at Bennane Lea
Snib Torbetís Cave at Bennane Lea
Bennane Cave was inhabited by Henry Ewing Torbet, also known as Snib, for 20 years until his death in 1983 at the age of 71. He was a former bank clerk from Dundee who later lived the life of a hermit in the cave. The walled frontage was built sometime in the 19th century to house a smiddy when the road was being constructed round Bennane. A high cave lies inside, with another one going deep into the hillside.
