On the far shore of the Firth of Clyde, Strone Point is prominent on the left, its name (from the Gaelic "sròn" meaning "nose") describing its form. In front of it, on the near side of the Firth, is Gourock's Tower Hill: NS2377 : The tower on Tower Hill.

It has flush bracket number S4824, 3rd order, height 234.116m above Newlyn Datum (info from OS archives). It stands 30 metres NNW of a mid-20th-century ruin whose precise date and function are uncertain; see Link for that ruin.
