The craggy east bank of Slochd a' Mhogha
Slochd a' Mhogha cuts a deep gash below Coire Choinnichean, giving those descending from the superb peak of Sgurr Coire Choinnichean a bit of a diversion. One can reach the track from Inverie to Mam Barrisdale by keeping well east of the defile, and if a bothy up the glen is your destination (as ours was) this might well be both shorter and easier. However, as the distinct path leading down the ridge fades into vague trods, one is led into the Coire and thus down the west side of this valley - which is the recommended route if heading for Inverie. A deer fence soon appears, and no doubt those going to Inverie will be able to find a way to cross this onto the "proper" path, but to us, this way seemed to be pushing us too far west, so we crossed the fence earlier and found a way down to the stream which soon brought us out on the Barrisdale track. A bit of a struggle on steep terrain, but thankfully quite short.
