George Edward Stanhope Molyneux Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon was the financial backer of the search for and the excavation of Tutankhamun's tomb. He died 5 April 1923 in Cairo from an infection from a mosquito bite. His wife, Lady Almina Carnarvon, had his body brought back to England where he was buried on Beacon Hill overlooking his family seat at Highclere Castle.
