Beauly Priory ruins
The priory dates from circa 1230 and was established by the Valliscaulian order, which I had previously never heard of. The history of the order states that they originated from the 'valley of the cabbages' somewhere near Dijon. In 1510 the priory joined the Cistercian order instead. I had always wondered if there was a connection between Beauly and Beaulieu in Hampshire, and it is now clear that both have monastic connections and both mean 'beautiful place'.
