Old tannery
According to the Hexham Local History Society leaflet 'Industrial Area and Tyne Green', "This is the last remaining significant tannery building in Hexham. The part that still straddles the Cockshaw Burn is probably the oldest part of a building that has been added to and subtracted from over nearly two centuries. The role of this building in the tanning process is not clear. The vaults across the burn have no obvious signs of openings or evidence that any type of waterpower was used. Certainly by 1870 the machinery was being driven by steampower.".
The building is Grade II listed
