Remains of Scar Top House
Remains of Scar Top House
Ruined farm houses like this are a common enough sight in Arkengarthdale, most of them dating from the time when farming and lead mining went hand in hand as local employment. When lead mining collapsed at the end of the 19thC, local residents had to rely on income from farming - always difficult in this high country. The barn to the right of the house still has its roof and looks to be in good condition. If the house were accessible by vehicle it might be restored.
