NT2035 : Dam at Hallmanor Loch

taken 15 days ago, 3 km from Kirkton Manor, Scottish Borders, Great Britain

Dam at Hallmanor Loch
Dam at Hallmanor Loch
The loch was built by damming the Hallmanor Burn in the early years of the 20th century, by labourers looking for work after the Talla Reservoir scheme was finished. In the foreground is the wall of the channel by which the burn exits.

A small hydroelectric plant was installed downstream between the wars to supply Hallmanor House until it was connected to mains electricity in the early 1960s. (From 'The Source of Manor' by Lyne and Manor Youth Group 1999)

Taken during a garden open day to raise money for charity.
