TQ1149 : Drove Road

taken 1 year ago, 3 km from Wotton, Surrey, Great Britain

Drove Road
Drove Road
Part of an old track that ran along the top of the North Downs, probably dating from Tudor times but with earlier origins. This section was also part of the byway that led from Abinger to Effingham (technically still open to all traffic, hence the rather incongruous width restriction sign, although the existence of a barrier suggest that in practice access is even more restricted that that). Seen here at its junction with Sheepwalk Lane, another byway and presumably (from its name) former drove road.
