Returning from bumping on the Cam
Returning from bumping on the Cam
During the last day of May Bumps, a crew from Women's Division 2 returns along the river. Some of the crew wear foliage in their hair (from willow trees) indicating that they successfully bumped the boat ahead of them. Some of the crews also carried cocktails as they returned, as this was their last race of Bumps and they had refrained from alcohol during training and racing.
See LinkExternal link for an explanation of the May Bumps (which take place in June).
I think the crew is Wolfson College's Women's first crew, who had a very successful week, bumping every day and thus moving up 4 places in Women's Division 2. LinkExternal link
River Cam
The River Cam is a tributary of the River Great Ouse in the east of England. The two rivers join to the south of Ely at Pope's Corner. The Great Ouse connects the Cam to England's canal system (via the Middle Level Navigations and the River Nene) and to the North Sea at King's Lynn. The total distance from Cambridge to the sea is about 40 mi (64 km).
