Chelmsford: a six into the river
Chelmsford: a six into the river
Essex's Ravi Bopara walloped a ball from the Nottinghamshire off-spinner Matthew Carter over the Tom Pearce Stand at the River End and into the River Can (offstage left). A replacement ball was summoned from the Pavilion and a little while later Carter (4 for 34) had his revenge, bowling Bopara for 69, the top score of Essex's first innings. Bopara was also top scorer in Essex's paltry second innings, but on the fourth morning Notts won at Chelmsford for the first time since 1984 and by an enormous 301 runs, their biggest margin of victory since 1931 (Notts 380 and 266, Essex 206 and 139).
