'Carnaby' at Braunston Historic Narrowboat Rally
'Carnaby' is a slightly unusual participant in the historic narrowboat rally. She was built as a full length working narrowboat by Harland and Wolff in 1937 but, unlike many of her sister vessels, passed to the British Waterways maintenance fleet in 1965. At some point in the early 1970s she was shortened to her present tug form. She passed into private ownership in 2010 and has been kept in the style of a maintenance boat - although it has to be said, a good deal cleaner and tidier.
Braunston Historic Narrowboat Rally
Braunston Marina is host to the UK's largest annual rally of historic working narrowboats, held over a weekend in June. At the 2018 show over 80 boats paraded through the marina and along a short stretch of the Grand Union Canal watched by an appreciative crowd. In addition to the boats there is a real ale beer tent, exhibitors, traders & waterways artists, an open air Songs of Praise church service on Sunday, live music from bands & groups, Morris dancing and "fast" food vendors.
