HU3164 : The southern beach of the western Burki Water

taken 3 years ago, near to Little-Ayre, Shetland Islands, Great Britain

The southern beach of the western Burki Water
The southern beach of the western Burki Water
The shallow lochans south of the centre of Muckle Roe, which drain through Burn of Cooses to the bay of North Ham, are collectively called Burki Waters. This western one is fed both by a stream accompanying the track down from its high point on the way from Little Ayre, and by one draining the more easterly lochans. The beach is a red sand derived from the Granophyre of Old Red Sandstone (Devonian) age which makes up most of the island.
