The mast at Sandy was brought into use in 1966 as the main ITV transmitter for the Anglia West region. It now broadcasts digital TV, digital radio and local VHF radio and its service area includes most of the counties of Bedford, Buckingham, Hertford, Cambridge and parts of neighbouring counties.

The height of the structure including the UHF aerials is 245m (803 feet) and top of the mast is 290m (951 feet) above sea level.

Sandy Heath TV mast
The television transmitter on Sandy Heath serves much of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Northamptonshire. In addition to the television aerial at the top, it carries aerials for several radio stations and a multitude of point-to-point links. The mast was erected in 1966 and is 240m tall.
