These pupils in their hi-viz jackets have visited the pavilion, made notes on the light and shade, reflections and ventilation, air and water. Now they are just outside the pavilion writing up their notes. Note how dry the grass is after a long hot spell of weather.
Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2018
Each summer the Serpentine Gallery commissions a pavilion as a cafe and performance space - by a renowned architect with no previous work in the United Kingdom. This year it is by Mexican Frida Escobedo. The design is a roofed courtyard, walls made of stacked roof tiles so air can blow through - a lucky choice for an unusually hot summer in London. The interior of the roof is mirrored and curve up from a centre line parallel to the Greenwich Meridian. There is also a shallow pool of water, one side parallel to the centre of the roof. The building has three courtyards, a large central one with the pool and two narrow end courtyards, one of them with a coffee and cake bar.
