Approaching the end of the northbound bore of the Jack Lynch Tunnel (Irish: Tollán Sheáin Uí Loingsigh) which is an immersed tube tunnel Link and is an integral part of the N40 southern ring road of Cork taking the road under the River Lee. Named after former Taoiseach, Jack Lynch, a native of Cork, the tunnel was completed in May 1999 and by 2015 it was carrying an average of 63000 vehicles per day.
The tunnel has two cells, the southbound and northbound bores, and a central bore for emergency use. Pedestrians and cyclists are prohibited from using the tunnel.
