Cairn na Burgh Beg - Birds taking flight
Cairn na Burgh Beg - Birds taking flight
There were a host of seabirds on the outlying ledges on the northwestern tip of Cairn na Burgh Beg. As our boat went past many of them took to the air. Most of the birds seen here are shags (Phalacrocorax aristotelis), but there is also a seagull (Great Black Backed I think) amongst them.
Note: Beg in Gaelic is Beag and means "small" (the opposite being Mor, Mr or More)

The two Cairn na Burgh islands along with their associated rocks and skerries are the northeasternmost islands of the Treshnish archipelago which guard the entrance to Loch Tuath on the western side of the Isle of Mull.

Cairn na Burgh Beg (Beag) has an area of c.3 acres (1.2 ha) with a high point of 22m
Neither island is populated these days.
