Easter Skeld slipway
Easter Skeld slipway
The slipway is great for land-launched boats too big to slide into the water without a trailer, whereas the small adjacent beach is ideal for putting in sea kayaks, as we just had. For boats built to stay in the water, the marina just out of shot to the left offers moorings. Easter Skeld lies at the head of Skelda Voe, a sheltered inlet ideal as a starting point for a trip to explore the cliffs, caves, arches and skerries of the Rea Wick peninsula. From there, it's an easy crossing to the skerries, Sanda Stour, Hildasay and so on down a chain of islands for an extended trip with nothing more than short crossings, though increasingly exposed as you get further out.
