Joule House, Acton Square

The Grade II listed LinkExternal link Joule House was once the home of the scientist James Prescott Joule who lived here from 1819 until 1854. During his time here, he conducted experiments in the basement of the building, studying heat and how it related to mechanical work. This led to the first law of thermodynamics and the naming of an international unit of energy after him.

It was acquired by the University of Salford in 2011 and is now used as a multi-disciplinary research centre.
