As part of the events organised around Sunderland's hosting of the start of the Tall Ships Races 2018 an artistic performance was organised which included a pair of artists walking across a wire above the River Wear, from a structure on the south bank of the river to a platform on Wearmouth Bridge. Chris Bullzini is pictured here approaching the end of his feat. Neither him nor his colleague (further behind on the wire) were using safety lines or nets. This was their practice run on the Thursday evening before their main performance the following night where they would repeat the feat accompanied by live music and fireworks.
NZ3957 : Sunderland Bridges Vertical clearance for vessels entering the River Wear is controlled by the railway bridge at 25m; both the Wearmouth bridge (downstream) and the Queen Alexandra bridge (upstream) have slightly greater clearances.
