High wire walkers on Wearmouth Bridge, Sunderland
As part of the festivities around Sunderland's hosting of the start of the Tall Ships Races 2018 they city put on some accompanying cultural events. One of which was an artistic performance which included a pair of performers walking across the River Wear from the south bank to the platform pictured here on the Wearmouth Bridge. They are pictured here having completed their practice run (though they didn't actually run!) on the night before the main performance which included live music and fireworks. Note the lack of safety line, or net below the wire.
NZ3957 : Sunderland Bridges Vertical clearance for vessels entering the River Wear is controlled by the railway bridge at 25m; both the Wearmouth bridge (downstream) and the Queen Alexandra bridge (upstream) have slightly greater clearances.
