The Dam holding back the Waters of Scar House Reservoir
The Dam holding back the Waters of Scar House Reservoir
This is truly a massive dam by British standards - a magnificent feat of engineering completed in the 1930's. It required a special light railway line to be constructed to carry machinery from Pateley Bridge. Stone was quarried from the fells above. There was even a temporary village constructed to house the workforce.
The Nidderdale Way crosses along here on top of the dam wall.
