The Hope & Anchor (a), 18 New Street, Stourport-on-Severn
The building dates from around 1800 and is Grade II listed. Originally a coaching inn, the outline of the coaching arch can be seen on the right of the building. This led to the stables at the back. The arch was filled in, probably many years ago, and a passage constructed with a small door to the street. It is thought that the building was purpose-built, so there has been an inn or pub here for over 200 years. In recent years the place was rather run down and probably in danger of ending up converted into something else, like so many others. Fortunately in April 2018, under new ownership and after major refurbishment inside and out, the pub re-opened. It now offers several real ales, ciders, lagers etc and also food is available. The new sign:-
