Poppies: Weeping Window :: NO1124

'Poppies: Weeping Window' is part of 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red', an installation by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper at the Tower of London. It was made up of scarlet ceramic poppies, one for every British and Colonial life lost during the First World War, and the planting of the poppies was completed in November 2014, the centenary year of the War. See Link.

In the following years part of the installation were displayed at places all over the United Kingdom, and from 30 June to 25 September 2016 'Poppies: Weeping Window' was on display at Balhousie Castle, the headquarters and regimental museum of the Black Watch.

This site is very appropriate for such a display, because nearly 9000 soldiers of the Black Watch were killed and 20,000 wounded during the War in action in France, Flanders, Greece, Palestine and Mesopotamia.
