Garrison Chapel, Fort George, Ardersier
Fort George is one of the most outstanding fortifications in Europe. It was built between 1748 and 1769 in the wake of the Battle of Culloden (1746). Colonel Skinner was in charge and the three Adam brothers acted as contractors. Fort George has served the British Army for 250 years and the barracks are still in use as a military establishment. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Fort George today is just how little it has changed since its completion in 1769. One of the best ways to appreciate Fort George is to walk around the main rampart which is more than 1km in length and encloses an area of 42 acres. The entire structure is a Category A listed building. LinkExternal link
The Garrison Chapel is close to the western tip of the spit of land at Fort George.
