"For people and animals, the remote pass [Cauldstane Slap] between East Cairn Hill [left] and West Cairn Hill [right] was a dangerous place"
"For almost two hundred years small black cattle were driven through this pass on their way from Highland grazings to English markets. Robbers and cattle reivers lurked in the heather in those days, giving the route its sinister name The Thieves Road"
