Tramway meets Faggergill Mine Spoil Heaps
The tramway from the Sloate Mine Horse Level joined into tracks from Faggergill Mine No.3 and its dressing floors here in 1909. The old mine buildings here on site hadn't been in use for around 20 years, so the Stang & Cleasby Mining Co. Ltd bought a 14' diameter waterwheel from the disused smelt mill at Surrender, to drive the crushers. The equipment from the temporary floors near Nut Hole were also brought down and the mine went into full production.
145 Tons of ore was raised in 1909 and sold for 1141 14s 10d, 130T in 1910 and 70 in 1911, the directors asked for more capital to extend the mine, but this was refused, and in 1912 a mere 18T was raised. Whilst the miners continued to search for more ore the directors looked for new investment, but none was forthcoming, work ceased in Sept 1915, and on the 31st Oct 1916 the company was dissolved, without even the money for a postage stamp.
