Grey's Monument dressed for the Great Exhibition of the North
A work entitled 'The Worker's Maypole' by Zoe Walker & Neil Bromwich for The Great Exhibition of the North, 22nd June to 9th September 2018. A flower halo has been added to the base of the upper plinth and long multicoloured ribbons extend the full length of the column. The Worker’s Maypole originally appeared in an 1894 illustration by Walter Crane - a Liverpool-born children’s book illustrator and great advocate of improved working conditions for workers in the industrial north LinkExternal link
