Princess Gardens Fountain
Princess Gardens Fountain
A cast-iron and stone fountain, contemporary with the laying out of the pleasure grounds in 1894. The three-tier fountain discharges into a round pool with a moulded edge with stylised foliage. The base of the fountain is tripartite with spouting dolphins ridden by trumpeting children. The Central moulded column has countryside scenes in relief including squirrels, birds. Decorated iron brackets support the scalloped basin on top and storks decorate the cylinder that supports the top basin, decorated with a seated infant who holds a crowning basin like a parasol. It is a Grade II listed structure (Historic England List entry Number: 1206829 LinkExternal link ).
Princess Gardens

The Princess Gardens are named for Princess Louise, Princess Royal and fourth daughter of Queen Victoria, who in May 1890 laid the foundation stone for the "pleasure ground" and Promenade Pier (completed June 1895). The foundation stone is located between the Princess Theatre and the War Memorial. The gardens were opened in 1894.

One of the most eye-catching features which still dominates the gardens today is the cast iron ornamental fountain which was a gift from Mr H Young from the nearby Torbay Hotel.
