Dunston Staithes
Possibly the largest timber structure in Europe, Dunston Staithes were used to load coal from the North Durham coalfield onto ships on the Tyne. At its peak over 5 million tons of coal was loaded here annually. The structure is Grade II listed and is now owned and managed by the Tyne and Wear Building Preservation Trust.
