James F X O'Brien blue plaque on building in Parnell Street (Main Street), Dungarvan, Co. Waterford
The plaque commemorates the birth in this building of James Francis Xavier O'Brien. At the time of his birth the building was the home of his parents Timothy and Catherine O'Brien. His father operated a number of ships which traded between Ireland and England. James went on to become a Fenian (Irish nationalist) and later became MP for South Mayo and then for the City of Cork, representing those places in the Parliament at Westminster, London.
