Extreme sailing consists of a series of stadium racing events which are held at international locations.
Cardiff was the venue for the 3rd event of the 2016 series; the previous two being in Oman and China.
The craft racing are foiling GC32 catamarans which are 10 metres in length, have three sails with a total area of 173.5 square metres and a mast height of 16.5 metres.
As the craft increases its speed, the hydrofoils lift the hull up and out of the water giving speeds of up to 72 kilometres/hour.
