Rugeley (Penkridge Bank) Camp 'Line 3' - Shower Block (looking N)
Unreinforced concrete foundation approx. 23.37m x 4.7m for a shower block comprising two rooms each with twenty formed shower trays separated by a central boiler room. Each 760mm x 690mm shower tray has a drain and 50mm piped outfall to an open 250mm wide channel laid to fall on either side of building.

The building was surveyed for 'The Chase Through Time Project' for the Site Recording Form see LinkExternal link

The first soldiers from the Accrington, Sheffield and Barnsley Pals Battalions arrived in the Great War camp on Penkridge Bank in early 1915. Each camp could cater for twenty battalions each having their own parade ground, kitchens and bath house. The dry summer has kept the grass and brambles in check over the solid concrete base.
The Chase Through Time :: SK0016

The Chase Through Time is a Heritage Lottery funded project with Staffordshire Council, Historic England and local volunteers to unravel over 2000 years of manís activity across Cannock Chase.

Cannock Chase has a rich history with its Iron Age Camp at Castle Ring, Medieval Hunting Forest, Deer Park and grazed heathland, two Great War Training Camps and post war forestry. Hidden beneath the trees and scrub there is a lot to be found.

As part of the project a LIDAR survey was undertaken of the twenty eight square mile area. Some features have been verified on the ground by the volunteers assisting the Historic England researchers. However, with such a large area only some areas have been visited.

Using the images submitted on Geograph in conjunction with the LIDAR and Historic England mapping on Arcgis should allow a photographic record of the features to be developed by the volunteers.

The combined LIDAR map can be found at LinkExternal link
