Vyrnwy Dam
The dam was built between 1880 and 1890 creating a reservoir in the Vyrnwy valley to serve the City of Liverpool. It was the first high masonry gravity dam in Britain, and the first to act as a weir, so that a separate spillway was not needed. It is 358m long, with a maximum height of 44.2m from foundation to crest which acts as the weir allowing water to spill over the dam. In recognition of its importance as an example of Victorian engineering it is now grade I listed.
