EWS freight train at Marholm Crossing
EWS freight train at Marholm Crossing
This English, Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS) Class 66 locomotive - no. 66047 - was photographed from the footbridge over Marholm Crossing, a former level crossing on the East Coast Main Line (ECML) and Peterborough to Leicester line. A passenger train is seen passing on the ECML to the left of the image. Marholm Crossing - pronounced locally as Marram - was closed to motor traffic in the early 1990s, effectively dividing Hurn Road into two sections, and is now only accessible to pedestrians and cyclists via the footbridge.
