Devil's Arrows, Boroughbridge
The Devil's Arrows consist of three huge prehistoric millstone grit standing stones in an alignment between Boroughbridge and the A1(M). They date from either the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age. The most southerly and tallest is in trees behind the camera position. It the second tallest standing stone in Britain after the tallest, the TA0967 : Rudston Monolith.
This view is of the central (nearest) and most northerly (in the background) standing stones. The central stone has a noticeable lean to the south, not evident in the photograph which is looking approximately north. The most northerly is the shortest but broadest of the three.
