Pitstone Windmill
Pitstone Windmill
Part of the National Trust's Ashridge Estate, the mill dates from at least 1627 - a date carved on part of the framework. This is the oldest date to be found on any windmill in Britain. The wheel seen here allowed the mill to rotate around the central post; it is now firmly bolted to the ground. The mill is open to the public for a few hours on summer Sundays.
