The Militia Store is dated 1881. According to the Historic England listing description Link the lift shaft is contemporary, and the original manual lift gear is retained.
A plate on the floor of the lift shows the name of the manufacturer - Clark, Bunnett & Co Limited (with additional information difficult to make out fully). Clark, Bunnett were engineers and founders based in London, making lifts, shutters and various cast metal items in the late 19th century - see Grace's Guide Link .
