Unusual stone valve marker
Unusual stone valve marker
Another contributor SE1238 : Marker stone near South Lodge describes this as a boundary marker, but I'm not convinced. The nearest local boundary seems to be between Baildon and Bingley that follows the beck a few hundred metres to the east of here. I think it's an unusual example of a stone water valve marker - the valve SE1238 : Valve boxes near Higher Coach Road is on the route of the Graincliffe Aqueduct which originally belonged to Shipley Water Works. I guess the erased text on the left hand side would have been "UDC" as the text "Shipley UDC WW" seen on several valve markers in the area.
