Farmland west of Downe
It is tempting to think 'Charles Darwin knew this place' - he lived a few minutes' walk away - but I doubt very much whether he knew this field. In Victorian times fields here would have been much smaller, enclosed by hedges - and (I'm guessing) stocked with sheep.
